Shopper, 20, hits out at Victoria's Secret as she claims a sales assistant asked her and a friend 'are you aware of the sizing in this store?'

A shopper has penned an open letter to Victoria's Secrets after a staff member asked her and a friend 'are you aware of the sizing in this store?'

Abbie Walsh-Greenfield, 20, believes the comment in the lingerie store's Cardiff branch implied that she was too large to be in there.

Following her shopping trip on Monday she wrote on her blog: 'I
didn't feel uncomfortable by the lack of XLs (I actually don't believe that I saw one in that size, anyway), nor by the 5 X-Smalls, 4 Smalls, 2 Medium, 1 Large and 0 X-Large ratio that seemed to be a common theme on the rails around the store.

'It wasn't even that that had bothered me.'

As she walked around the store she says that one of the shop assistants walked past her 'average sized friend' and asked her the brutal question.

The 20-year-old said it left her feeling uncomfortable, so she left.
She wrote: 'I don't actually know what the sales assistant meant by her comment, but surely there's no two ways about it.

'I can't even imagine another sentence that she could have tried to say.'

Ms Walsh-Greenfield said: 'I know I am not a small person and I think that is why she said it.

'I was going to go back and complain but I did not want to put myself in that store.'

Ms Walsh-Greenfield said she believes off-hand comments can really affect people with low self esteem.

She went on to spend money at Ann Summers instead, because she was made to feel comfortable.

She finished the letter: 'So, just to let you know Victoria's Secret Cardiff, I spent £100 in Ann Summers that exact day, and probably got double what £100 would have got me in VS.

And besides that, besides the money which doesn't really matter, the staff in there were so lovely and kind, and no one questioned my size once...

'They made me feel comfortable.'

Victoria's Secret said in a statement: 'Victoria's Secret expects that all customers be treated with respect. We are reaching out to the customer and will take the appropriate actions as we're committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcome in our stores.'

Meanwhile, their a spokesperson for their rivals said:  'We are thrilled that Abbie found what she needed and that she received a positive shopping experience from our amazing store colleagues.

'We believe all women are beautiful, whatever their size. Curves and confidence go hand in hand, and there's nothing sexier than being comfortable in your own skin.

'At Ann Summers we understand the importance of catering to a variety of body shapes and we champion that with our Size Sexy collections that go from 30A to 44H, sizes 6-30.'
